The Theremin: An Unusual Instrument

This lesson will introduce your children to an unusual instrument - The Theremin.
- Learn the history of the Theremin and about its inventor.
- Understand the science of how the Theremin produces sound.
- Actively listen to examples of music performed on the Theremin.
- Examine the Theremin's role in classical music, film, and popular culture.
- Take a "SQUIZ" (SQUILT Quiz!) as a review at the end of our class.

The Children's March

This lesson will introduce your children to The Children's March by Percy Grainger.
- Learn about the Australian (turned American) composer for concert band, Percy Grainger.
- Learn about the instrumentation of a concert band.
- Learn about four themes in the march.
- Move to each of the four themes throughout the music.
- Take a "SQUIZ" (SQUILT Quiz!) as a review at the end of our class.

I'm Mary Prather
After graduating with my Bachelor's Degree in Music from Southern Methodist University, I taught public school music for 10 years (and obtained a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership along the way).
My heart truly lies in teaching children about great music, so after beginning the homeschool journey, I developed SQUILT Music Appreciation - designed to bring simple, affordable music appreciation resources to the homeschool community.
SQUILT LIVE! is in its TENTH year and I consider myself fortunate to work with so many eager, wonderful children! My own children are young adults now, so I love pouring myself into SQUILT!
